William Kist, 93, a Mineola resident over 89 years, former owner of Knott’s Pharmacy and longtime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Williston Park passed away on March 2 in Tampa, FL.  Loving husband of the late Margaret “Peggy,” dear father of Peggy Ruhnke, William A. Jr., James & the late Henry Kist.  Father-in-law of Kevin, Pam, Alicia and Barbara.  Also survived by 13 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.  Notice of memorial service at a later date.

Robert “Bob” Valli died May 30, at his home in New Hyde Park, after a three-year battle with brain cancer. He was 76. Valli was the consummate gentlemen, an accomplished businessman and enthusiastic volunteer.  He will be remembered by family and friends as an avid golfer, fitness enthusiast, tri-athlete, sailor, and most of all a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend.

Bill Poss Sr. passed away on the morning of May 25. He was born on July 22, 1920 in Brooklyn. Poss, 82, was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Millie whom he married on Dec. 7, 1941.

 

He was a proud veteran of World War II having served three years as Master Sargent in the United States Army in the Pacific and a member of the American Legion for over 50 years.

Born in Italy, Foresto moved to Mineola as a young child.  She attended Mineola High School and went on to work as a seamstress at a factory in Mineola.

Joseph E. Connelly, of Mineola, died at the age of 85 on Oct. 19. Beloved husband of Marie, loving father of Regina Anderson, Elise Puig, Christopher Connelly and Andrew Connelly, cherished grandfather of 10 and great grandfather of four, Connelly was a WWII army veteran, member of American Legion Post #1718, Carle Place and former owner and operator of C&M Auto Service in Mineola.

He was an avid fisherman and Captain of El-Bo-Jo.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society appreciated.

Margaret M. Oswald, 98, of Oxford, MI died peacefully at home on Nov. 21. She was preceded in death by her husband Edward, her eldest son Robert, daughter-in law Carole and son-in-law Bill Bellairs. Oswald is survived by her children: Susan Bellairs of Oxford and Paul (Kathie) Oswald of Shohola, PA.

Oswald, the daughter of the late Augustine and Margaret Ziminski; was a 30-year Mineola resident and very active in Corpus Christi Church. She was born on March 14, 1915 in Hempstead.

Ressurreicao “Gloria” Dias of Carle Place died at the age of 88 on Nov. 28, 2013. She was the beloved wife of the late Antonio, devoted mother of Maria (Fernando) Lucas, Joe Dias and Teresa (Nelson) Ines. Loving grandmother to David, Stephanie, Andrew and Matthew and great grandmother to Emily, Ryan and Hailey. Also survived by her sister Carma and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral mass was held Monday, Dec. 2, 2013 at Corpus Christi Church. Interment was in Holy Rood Cemetery.

Eugene Joseph Dugan, 91, an active mebmer of the American Legion No. 144 and VFW No. 1688 in Williston Park, passed away on Jan. 24 at his home in Reno, Nev. Dugan was born Aug. 31, 1922 in Flushing, New York to John and Margaret (Rooney) Dugan, immigrants from Ireland.

 

He was the last of 13 children, and was orphaned at the age of 2, and raised by his Aunt Jane Hughes and Aunt Rose Duffy (his mother’s sisters). As a young boy, Dugan was a golf caddy like most of his siblings at Deep Dale Golf Course. During his teenage years, he developed skills and worked on projects in the C.C. Camp in the State of Oregon.

Judith A. Vassallo (Passaro), 67, of Mineola passed away on Feb. 12. Loving wife of Raymond Passaro for 30 years. Devoted aunt of Lauren and Joey Passaro. Caring sister-in-law of Joe and Diane, John and Maria Passaro. Services were held at Cassidy Funeral Home, 156 Willis Ave. Mass was held at Corpus Christi Church in Mineola.  Vassallo was laid to rest at Mount St. Mary Cemetery.
